Well it’s been a while since I got a U-Turn out to all of you. Things were a tad busy before we left for overseas and too busy on my return. Although on holiday I made sure I scouted out a few products. I looked a various brands of green tea but the quality we are getting in is as good as anything we sampled. I also wanted to see what see if it was worth changing my supplier of water filters but I must say I would rather steer my clients to pay a little more for the quality that’s comes out of the US.
Vietnam and Thailand are both beautiful countries but for me, what stood out over and above the amazing scenery, was the people. In particular, the people of Vietnam were friendly and seemed very content with what they have. Here’s a country which had been ruled by the Chinese, the French and bombed to smithereens by the Americans, yet the people look forward and not behind them. They do not have a chip on their shoulder or hatred for foreign visitors (who must all look like Americans), in fact they welcome them, knowing they bring opportunity. There is virtually no crime and often we would be walking the streets at 10pm, not for a moment feeling unsafe. The country is moving forward fast due to the people and their work ethic, there are NO fat people in Vietnam.
Arriving back home we immediately commented on the poor attitude and work ethic we have here. We love South Africa for it’s weather and natural beauty but the problem is that people keep uncovering the past, instead of looking to our future. People have to change their views in order to see a better South Africa. What this government does not realise, is that people who love soccer will come to SA (some unwillingly) to watch the world cup but they wont return if they don’t feel safe or are not looked after. If you are coming in contact with foreigners this world cup, show them that you don’t have a chip on your shoulder and go out of your way to make their stay special.

Cancer News: Cancer Update from Johns Hopkins
1.Every person has cancer cells in the body. These cancer cells do not show up in the standard tests until they have multiplied to a few billion. When doctors tell cancer patients that there are no more cancer cells in their bodies after treatment, it just means the tests are unable to detect the cancer cells because they have not reached the detectable size..
2. Cancer cells occur between 6 to more than 10 times in a person’s lifetime.
3 When the person’s immune system is strong the cancer cells will be destroyed and prevented from multiplying and forming tumours.
4. When a person has cancer it indicates the person has multiple nutritional deficiencies. These could be due to genetic, environmental, food and lifestyle factors.
5. To overcome the multiple nutritional deficiencies, changing diet and including supplements will strengthen the immune system.
6. Chemotherapy involves poisoning the rapidly-growing cancer cells and also destroys rapidly-growing healthy cells in the bone marrow, gastrointestinal tract etc, and can cause organ damage, like liver, kidneys, heart, lungs etc.
7. Radiation while destroying cancer cells also burns, scars and damages healthy cells, tissues and organs.
8. Initial treatment with chemotherapy and radiation will often reduce tumour size. However prolonged use of chemotherapy and radiation do not result in more tumour destruction.
9. When the body has too much toxic burden from chemotherapy and radiation the immune system is either compromised or destroyed, hence the person can succumb to various kinds of infections and complications.
10. Chemotherapy and radiation can cause cancer cells to mutate and become resistant and difficult to destroy. Surgery can also cause cancer cells to spread to other sites.
11. An effective way to battle cancer is to starve the cancer cells by not feeding it with the foods it needs to multiply.
*CANCER CELLS FEED ON:
a. Sugar is a cancer-feeder. By cutting off sugar it cuts off one important food supply to the cancer cells. Sugar substitutes like NutraSweet, Equal, Spoonful, etc are made with Aspartame and it is harmful. A better natural substitute would be honey or molasses, but only in very small amounts. Table salt has a chemical added to make it white in colour. Better alternative is Bragg’s aminos or sea salt.
b. Milk causes the body to produce mucus, especially in the gastro-intestinal tract. Cancer feeds on mucus. By cutting off milk and substituting with unsweetened soy or goats milk (organic) cancer cells are being starved.
c. Cancer cells thrive in an acid environment. A meat-based diet is acidic and it is best to eat fish, and a little chicken rather than beef or pork. Meat also contains livestock antibiotics, growth hormones and parasites, which are all harmful, especially to people with cancer.
d. A diet made of 80% fresh vegetables and juice, whole grains, seeds, nuts and a little fruits help put the body into an alkaline environment. About 20% can be from cooked food including beans. Fresh vegetable juices provide live enzymes that are easily absorbed and reach down to cellular levels within 15 minutes to nourish and enhance growth of healthy cells. To obtain live enzymes for building healthy cells try and drink fresh vegetable juice (most vegetables including bean sprouts) and eat some raw vegetables 2 or 3 times a day.. Enzymes are destroyed at temperatures of 104 degrees F (40 degrees C).
e. Avoid coffee, tea, and chocolate, which have high caffeine. Green tea is a better alternative and has cancer fighting properties. Water-best to drink purified water, or filtered, to avoid known toxins and heavy metals in tap water. Distilled water is acidic, avoid it.
12. Meat protein is difficult to digest and requires a lot of digestive enzymes. Undigested meat remaining in the intestines becomes putrefied and leads to more toxic build-up.
13. Cancer cell walls have a tough protein covering. By refraining from or eating less meat it frees more enzymes to attack the protein walls of cancer cells and allows the body’s killer cells to destroy the cancer cells. 14. Some supplements build up the immune system (IP6, Flor-ssence, Essiac, anti-oxidants, vitamins, minerals, EFAs etc.) to enable the bodies own killer cells to destroy cancer cells.. Other supplements like vitamin E are known to cause apoptosis, or programmed cell death, the body’s normal method of disposing of damaged, unwanted, or unneeded cells. 15. Cancer is a disease of the mind, body, and spirit. A proactive and positive spirit will help the cancer warrior be a survivor. Anger, un-forgiveness and bitterness put the body into a stressful and acidic environment. Learn to have a loving and forgiving spirit. Learn to relax and enjoy life. 16. Cancer cells cannot thrive in an oxygenated environment. Exercising daily, and deep breathing help to get more oxygen down to the cellular level. Oxygen therapy is another means employed to destroy cancer cells.

3. No plastic wrap in microwave. Johns Hopkins has recently sent this out in its newsletters. This information is being circulated at WalterReedArmyMedicalCenter as well. Dioxin chemicals cause cancer, especially breast cancer.. Dioxins are highly poisonous to the cells of our bodies. Don’t freeze your plastic bottles with water in them as this releases dioxins from the plastic. Recently, Dr. Edward Fujimoto, Wellness Program Manager at Cast le Hospital, was on a TV program to explain this health hazard. He talked about dioxins and how bad they are for us. He said that we should not be heating our food in the microwave using plastic containers. This especially applies to foods that contain fat. He said that the combination of fat, high heat, and plastics releases dioxin into the food and ultimately into the cells of the body. Instead, he recommends using glass, such as Corning Ware, Pyrex or ceramic containers for heating food. You get the same results, only without the dioxin. So such things as TV dinners, instant ramen and soups, etc., should be removed from the container and heated in something else. Paper isn’t bad but you don’t know what is in the paper. It’s just safer to use tempered glass, Corning Ware, etc. He reminded us that a while ago some of the fast food restaurants moved away from the foam containers to paper…the dioxin problem is one of the reasons. Also, he pointed out that plastic wrap, such as Saran, is just as dangerous when placed over foods to be cooked in the microwave. As the food is nuked, the high heat causes poisonous toxins to actually melt out of the plastic wrap and drip into the food. Cover food with a paper towel instead. This is an article that should be sent to anyone important in your life..

Mainstream medicine has reported in recent years that the incidence of papillary thyroid cancer — the most common form of thyroid malignancy — is growing at an alarming rate. In fact, the number of people diagnosed with this form of cancer, which typically arises as an irregular mass in an otherwise normal thyroid gland, has tripled over the past three decades. But a new study by DartmouthMedicalSchool researchers has come up with good news about this so-called “epidemic”. First of all, the cases of papillary thyroid cancer have most likely only appeared to increase — simply because of the huge surge in the use of ultrasound tests and biopsies. And it turns out the vast majority of people with this cancer survive it just fine, even if they receive no treatment at all. Background information included in the study, which was just published in the May issue of the Archives of Otolaryngology, Head & Neck Surgery explains that papillary thyroid cancer is commonly found on autopsy among people who died of other causes. “Studies published as early as 1947 demonstrated it, and more recently, a report has shown that nearly every thyroid gland might be found to have a cancer if examined closely enough,” the study authors wrote. “The advent of ultrasonography and fine-needle aspiration biopsy has allowed many previously undetected cancers to be identified, changing the epidemiology of the disease. Over the past 30 years, the detected incidence of thyroid cancer has increased three-fold, the entire increase attributable to papillary thyroid cancer and 87% of the increase attributable to tumours measuring less than 2 centimetres.” Louise Davies, M.D., of Dartmouth Medical School and Gilbert Welch, M.D., of the Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice, investigated thyroid cancer cases and gathered data about the patients’ treatment from National Cancer Institute (NCI) registries. Then they looked for causes of death through the National Vital Statistics System. The researchers found that out of 35,663 people with papillary thyroid cancer which had not spread to the lymph nodes or other areas at diagnosis, 440 (1.2 percent) did not undergo immediate, definitive treatment (i.e. surgery). Six years later, follow-up research showed that only six of these patients had died of their cancer. This was virtually the same rate of cancer deaths among the 35,223 individuals who did undergo treatment, which involved having part or all of their thyroids removed. Specifically, the 20-year survival rate from cancer was 97 percent for those who did not receive treatment and 99 percent for those who did — a slight difference the Dartmouth scientists noted was not statistically significant. Bottom line: almost everyone diagnosed with papillary thyroid cancer of any size confined to the thyroid survived whether they had treatment or not. “Thus, clinicians and patients should feel comfortable considering the option to observe for a year or longer cancers that fall into this category,” the researchers concluded.

Your body lotion may not taste very good, but your skin is absorbing more of it into your body, than the sandwich you just consumed. Unfortunately, women who are using synthetic skincare generally absorb about 200 chemicals into their system before their first cup of coffee, without even being conscious of it. » Did you know that your body comes equipped with an amazing blend of its own oils and functions? Did you also know that your body is made up of the same materials that our earth is? So keeping this in mind, you may not be surprised to hear that your skin is better able to work with natural ingredients than synthetic ingredients made in labs. You see, natural ingredients are bioactive, which means that they work with your skin, the same way your natural oils do. On the other hand when your skin is choked in synthetic oils and emollients, it looses its own ability to nourish and repair itself and it becomes less effective. Just one example of the types of ingredients found in synthetic skincare are mineral oils and mineral oil derivatives (many of which come from oil refinaries where petrol is made!) which clog pores, making it difficult for your skin to breathe. With time, the oils turn rancid and start forming free-radicals, one of the main causes of aging. Toxic chemicals also increase the production of free-radicals leading to deterioration and slowing down of the cell renewal process. The fact that synthetic skincare products can cause aging spells out an obvious but extreme irony for the synthetic beauty industry. Another clear example of what you put in, is what you get out.
Are we being poisoned?
Municipalities all across America are currently dripping fluoride chemicals into their public water supply, dosing over a hundred million Americans with a chemical that they claim “prevents cavities.” What’s interesting here is that this biological effect of “preventing cavities” is a medical claim, according to the FDA. And as such, making this claim instantly and automatically transforms fluoride into a “drug” under currently FDA regulations. This means that cities and towns all across America and in many parts of the world are now practicing medicine without a license by dripping liquid medication into the public water supply without the consent of those who are swallowing the medication. If you or I did this, we would be arrested and tried as either terrorists (because contaminating the water supply is an act of terrorism) or felons practicing medicine without a license. So what allows cities and towns to get away with these very same crimes?
Cities openly violate state and federal law
Keep in mind that a medication can only be legally prescribed to someone after they have been diagnosed with a medical need. In other words, a doctor can’t legally prescribe you some pharmaceutical unless he examines you and determines you actually need it. But fluoride is medicating everyone whether they need it or not, without any medical diagnosis whatsoever. And that means those children or adults who already have high exposure to fluoride (from swallowing toothpaste or drinking fluoridated bottled water, for example) may now be exposed to too much fluoride from the added amounts in the tap water. Excess fluoride can cause serious health problems such as bone fractures and dark spots appearing on your teeth (dental fluorosis). This does not appear to concern the proponents of fluoride — people who believe they alone have the right to practice mass medicine without a license by dripping an unapproved drug chemical into the public water supply without the knowledge or consent of those who are being medicated by that chemical. Every city and town in America currently engaged in fluoridation of the water supply is committing felony crimes. Town leaders who approve of water fluoridation are criminals operating in clear violation of FDA regulations, state medical laws and federal laws.

Now I have heard it all…
The European Parliament has blocked the authorisation of bovine and porcine thrombin as an additive to bind together meat morsels into one piece.
In a vote yesterday, MEPs stated that use of the ‘meat glue’ creates reconstituted meat products that “carry an unacceptably high risk of misleading consumers”.
Thrombin, an enzyme derived from blood plasma of pig or cattle, can be used to connect separate pieces of reclaimed meat together, so that they appear to be one large slab. In 2005, the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) had issued a positive opinion for its use, prompting the European Commission to propose its addition to the positive list of additives in annex IV of directive 95/2/EC.
Under the Commission’s proposal, meat products reconstituted with thrombin would have required labelling and would have been excluded from restaurants.
However, the EU Environment Committee, led by Swedish MEP Åsa Westlund, tabled a resolution to block the additive’s approval. This was backed yesterday by 370 votes in favour, 262 against and 32 abstentions. A minimum of 369 votes in favour was needed to exercise Parliament’s right of veto under the ‘regulatory procedure with scrutiny’.
Consumer trust
“Consumers in Europe should be able to trust that they are buying a real steak or ham, not pieces of meat that have been glued together,” said Environment Committee chair Jo Leinen, addressing the plenary. The proposed labelling requirements would not have been sufficient to protect against misleading consumers, MEPs argued.
Soda Tax…one way to get more taxes but I don’t think they are worried about peoples health.
The WashingtonD.C. Council has voted to include sweetened soft drinks in its six percent sales tax bracket to help bridge the city’s half-billion dollar gap between spending and earnings.
A soft drinks tax has been vigorously opposed by the beverage industry – as well as by many consumers – as similar local-level taxes have been elsewhere in the country. In D.C., the Maryland-Delaware-D.C. Beverage Association has set up an organization called ‘No D.C. Beverage Tax’, a coalition of local WashingtonD.C. citizens, businesses, and associations that are opposed to a new tax on beverages. The coalition has argued that a beverage tax is ‘discriminatory and regressive’, and that it would cost jobs.
The six percent sales tax would apply to artificially and sugar-sweetened soft drinks, including sodas, sports drinks and energy drinks, but not drinks containing milk, juice, coffee or tea. It is different from a previously proposed soft drink tax in D.C., which would have put a penny-per-ounce excise tax on soft drinks.
The tax is expected to raise about $7.92m a year. The final vote on the 2011 budget is scheduled for next month, before being sent to the mayor and Congress.
Something smells…we have always said yes to fish but it must be from clean waters (Canada, NZ & Scandinavian countries)
“Concerned” scientists from both sides of the Atlantic are urging Margaret Hamburg for the FDA to complete its 2009 draft assessment on fish consumption for pregnant women.
In a letter dated May 26, Prof Tom Brenna from Cornell University and Prof Michael Crawford from the Institute of Brain Chemistry and Human Nutrition at London Metropolitan University, UK, urge an “update [to] the FDA’s 2004 advice about fish consumption for fertile and pregnant women”.
The letter, says that advice issued in 2004 is now out of date and may now be “inadvertently causing harm”.
Speaking at the Celebration of DHA event in London, Prof Brenna explained that the 2004 advice for pregnant and fertile women was issued to protect the developing fetus from the harms of methyl-mercury pollutants in fish.
“The core problem is that the benefits of fish could not be appropriately considered in 2004,” state the scientists. “Current science has advanced to the point where it is no longer consistent with the recommendation to limit consumption of all fish to a maximum of 12 ounces per week for pregnant and lactating women and women who may become pregnant.
“There is persuasive new evidence that consumption of more than 12 ounces per week of most marketplace species will actually improve fetal neurodevelopment. This improvement occurs in spite of methyl-mercury in most, if not all fish.
Recipe of the Month: Fresh fruit kebabs with lemon lime dip
Dietitian’s tip: These kebabs work well with any type of fruit, including more exotic types such as star fruit, kumquats or prickly pears. To prevent fruit from browning, dip in pineapple or orange juice.
Serves 2
Ingredients
- 4 ounces low-fat, sugar-free lemon yogurt
- 1 teaspoon fresh lime juice
- 1 teaspoon lime zest
- 4 to 6 pineapple chunks
- 4 to 6 strawberries
- 1 kiwi, peeled and diced
- 1/2 banana, cut into 1/2-inch chunks
- 4 to 6 red grapes
- 4 wooden skewers
Directions
In a small bowl, whisk together the yogurt, lime juice and lime zest. Cover and refrigerate until needed.
Thread 1 of each fruit onto the skewer. Repeat with the other skewers until the fruit is gone. Serve with the lemon lime dip.
